CIRIA have produced two great little animations that help explain how to manage water in urban spaces by mimicking the ecosystem processes that take place in natural watersheds. Not only does this create space for nature and biodiversity in our urban environments, it also means we gain benefits from nature as wide ranging as reducing flood risk, cooling our urban environment in summer and making our environment more enjoyable to experience.
Water Sensitive Urban Design, along with the immediate benefits for people and wildlife also helps us adapt to climate change by making urban spaces more resilient and able to cope with the likelihood of more frequent sudden weather events.
Thanks Bob,
we will use this when teaching our water management part of GCSE Environmental Science.
